women kickboxing = girl power
I only received one comment from my sister in law - That's awesome, go kick some butt. Then I got 2 people to "like" my status, both were females. They agreed with my "choice" and provided motivation. I'm guessing that guys didn't really care. They probably thought, "Cool", but didn't have anything to say that would support or discourage me from it. I was thinking of posting up another hobby that guys generally do, but I didn't want my posts to seem too extreme. But I'm thinking now that I should have to create more controversy.

I agree. Women love to see other women empower themselves. Men are either neutral to this or may even dislike it.
I got the same kind of responses from women on my status.
I think even if you had chosen something more manly, people still wouldn't care
men probably didn't comment because they didn't want to say how they really feel about it. but "girl power" was totally necessary in your title. love it.
I agree that men don't feel the need to say anything about girls taking up self defense-type activities. They probably assume that it's great for us, but they would never need to do that.
I agree, women stepping out of their gender codes these days doesn't seem to be that big of a deal
I got the same, more responses for women. I think that nowadays women get rewarded for stepping outside their comfort zone and for looking for activities that are generally male-coded.
Yeah kickboxing wasn't the best option, it's so commonly accepted now among women. Guys almost like girls more if they are sporty like that.
why does girl power have to be associated with violence?
i don't think it's violence. I see it as just an extreme sport type hobby. but if i said cage fighting, then that would be more violent. i would not support that.
I think that kickboxing is an acceptable activity for women these days. Its a great workout. Its an activity that women like doing at the gym.
I'm sure girls feel more strongly than guys because they feel like they should be able to protect themselves if another guy wasn't there.
I didn't think of kickboxing in terms of violence till I got back on this blog and started reading all the posts and comments. I thought only of a workout activity.
