Like many of the other posts, I also did not get very much feedback after changing my status to "I'm going to take up kickboxing" One lady from back home liked it which reaffirms my belief that it's more acceptable for girls to step outside of their gender codes then it is for men.
One specific example that supports this idea took place during my junior year of high school. One of the girls from my school decided to go out for the football team and she was fully supported by everyone (except for the coach who made a rule that all players must be able to bench press 150llbs before they can play in the games). I feel that girls can more easily swing between gender codes than guys can. For example, all of the guy cheerleaders were constantly made fun of for choosing to take part in a "girl sport"

I totally agree with you. I think that females are able to participate in male activities without being stereotype. While males on the other hand can't. I also think it has todo with the surrounding culture.
So true. It's also interesting that shifting gender roles is associated with sexual preference. Why is that?
