Kickboxing not even an issue

When I made the post "I'm going to take up kickboxing!" I only had two people respond, one with the "like" button, who was a girl. The other response was from my friend who is male, and he asked where I was doing it. I think, however, I got the response I did because I'm more of a tomboy anyway and anything similar to my status wouldn't surprise most people. I've played soccer and other sports since I was 4, and I go to the gym 4 times a week, so I don't think anyone thought it was weird for me. But then, I'm not a girly-girl per se.

Women kickboxing doesn't seem very new. I have friends who box, so it doesn't seem that out of the ordinary for most people.

I think another think like wrestling would have gotten more comments. Kickboxing is common. I wonder how you would been seen if you were going to take sewing lessons?

this makes sense. you're active, somewhat of a tomboy, and your friends know this so the introduction of kickboxing in your routine would not be surprising. it's acceptable.

I dont think being a tom-boy or girly-girl has anything to do with whether or not people accept a girl doing kickboxing. Most of the other comments suggest kickboxing is huge among women, so I think it appeals to a broad spectrum and because of that, people won't judge based on the tom-girl or girly-girl premise.

Same thing happened to me. It wasn't really a big deal that I said I was going to do that. Everyone was even supportive.

I completely agree. Two people liked it and one just told me to come to her class that she loves. Doesn't seem out of the ordinary, even if I'm not a tomboy.

ha that's funny that she encouraged you to join her in a class. i think its a form on empowerment when girls take on manly and aggressive sports/hobbies

My response was very similar- it just doesn't seem to be a big deal to people when women step outside their gender roles

Coming from a guys perspective it doesn't seem weird that a girl would kickbox. It just says that she cares about being in shape.

Coming from a guy kickboxing isn't an issue it just says that you're concerned about staying fit.

I totally agree that it isn't a big deal for girls to take up physical activities, it's really culturally normal now.
