Kicking some trash

When I posted that I was going into a kickboxing class, I was surprised by all the positive feedback I got. Most of the comments were very supportive, such as "you go girl!" and "boys better look out!", and they were all very go-woman in their responses. It's nice to know that I get support if I want to do more "hard-core" things.

Yeah, you go girl!!! Sounds like that was a pretty common response, for boys and girls!

I feel like I got the same "girl power" responses. There was an empowering presence amongst the girls that liked my status or commented how much they loved it.

women love when other women are empowered.

Did you get any responses from guys?

I found the same thing! It's "sexy" for girls to do kickboxing and other generally male dominated activities. Lots of leeway and we can do almost anything we want.

I believe that females have more opportunities to take female and male coded activities without been stereotyped. Women get rewarded and applauded while men are judge

Haha. The same thing happened to me. People were writing things like, "that is TOTALLY WICKED!" and "I'm coming with you!" Definitely this idea of "girl power" is very prominent.

Women rock!! I think that everyone got positive feedback on both topics.

I wonder why it was assumed "boys better look out!" That is an example of gender codes in itself. Of course a girl would take kickboxing to beat up on the boys...
