"I'm laughing pretty hard right now"
What? I can't take kickboxing? When I think of kickboxing, I do not think of sweaty men and muscley legs being forced into someone's torso. Rather, I think of a bunch of women standing in rows at 24 hour fitness punching and kicking in the air. You see, I have been one of these women. I wanted to try the class out. And, regardless of the fact that I may or may not have felt a little ridiculous flailing my arms around, it was a nice cardio work out. This comment was from my friend Joey. He is the most heterosexual guy I have ever met. So, it makes sense why he would respond the way he did. On the other hand, one of my guy friends, Omar, clicked the "like" button. Contrasting Omar's response to Joey's, Omar's response made more sense because he is a little on the feminine side. Joey seems more about male dominance and Omar is more about equailty. Joey shot my idea down while Omar lifted it up.

That is so interesting that both of your guy friends thought something differently. I also imagine girls kickboxing more than boys so it's weird when people shoot it down.
I wonder if men are ever intimated when girls participate and are successful at male-oriented activities. I know a guy that likes it if girls can talk about sports, but hates it if she knows more than he does.
Maybe since kickboxing has evolved into a cardio workout, it has more appeal to the women. You feel you are getting a good workout. Its tough, yet its not masculine. I think the sport might be more dominated by women at this point. size doesnt seem to be an advantage in kickboxing so that might be another reason women flock to it. also, women are known to have a lot of strength in their legs.
it seems as though joey is very concerned about his image where as omar is okay with people trying out new things. joey probably wants to keep his manliness by making fun of your interest in kick boxing and omar encourages you because he is probably trying some hobbies that females generally do.
