Kickboxing and Lockdown

In response to my kickboxing status, a couple of guys liked it, one said "ruh oh" and two girls said they wanted to do it with me. I don't feel like I got a response that seemed to distinguish me just because I was a woman who wants to take up kick boxing.

On another note not related to gender, I went to Lagoon this weekend where they have a few haunted houses. One was called Lockdown which had a prison you walked through and freaky prisoners. Outside in the line they played rap music, whose lyrics didn't necessarily have anything to do with prison. Hmmm... Do you think this is just indicative of the genre or do you think its stereotyping?

I feel like it's pretty normal to take kickboxing classes for a girl. Don't they do them at the gym? It wouldn't really catch my attention as a gender code issue.

Some men may feel threatened that you are empowering yourself by taking kickboxing, hence the "ruh oh." But to get more of a response it should have been something like "I'm taking up skateboarding."

I think it's funny that a lot of the girls didn't get much of a response. I didn't either.

one guy said, "uh oh" to me too.

I also agree that kickboxing has become more available and 'normal' for female. Many gyms offers this class and they are usually filled with females.

Very much stereotyping. That is really weird... and hilarious.

"ruh oh" seems to say "ooo i'm scared." this guy associates your taking up kickboxing to being able to beat people up. and from his perspective it would seem that girls can't possibly physically hurt a man. maybe i'm looking in to this comment too much, but that's what i see.
