Sewing is Cool!!!
I didn't have much activity on this post.... but from the few likes I had and one comment. I think that people thought it was an acceptable thing for me to go do, haha. I don't know if this means people think i'm an arts and craft kind of guy or that sewing is just that cool. The one response that I did have was from one of my neighbors, a girl, and she was excited and wanting to join the class with me. I think that joining a sewing class for a male isn't completely out of the ordinary anymore here at BYU. I think that we would possibly get a different response at other universities though. Due to our culture at this school guys get more involved with activities as a whole than other universities from my experience and talking with friends. I probably really wouldn't go to a sewing class if it was being offered since I wouldn't want to invest time into something that I most likely wouldn't be able to master in a short time. I think that its cool to see how people aren't judging though for something that might be out of the norm of everyday society though.. So my conclusion is, Sewing is Cool!!!

I agree. It may be because of Mormon culture that men can sew without being too weird. Mormon culture teaches us to share responsibilities as husbands and wives, making it more acceptable to do womanly things.
To me, it's interesting that people really didn't comment on several of our statuses I wonder why. Lost for words?
have you ever heard of "quilt dad"?
he's big in the crafting/sewing blog community, and he's a guy with a wife and kids who makes quilts. Freaking awesome quilts at that!
maybe you could go to this sewing class to meet girls? this experiment couldn't be tooo bad if opportunities like that could arise? haha
I definitely agree that it is more socially acceptable at BYU for a guy to do this. Because of our religion, people give boys the benefit of the doubt who are learning to sew. At another university, people would probably question motives more.
I think people are just politically correct. They say "yeah, do it" or "that's cool". But then if you talk to your roomates and tell them that you have a friend that does that they will most likely laugh about it. Same as with girls. If you are a girl and I tell you that I want to set you up with a dude that likes sewing? yeah, you would think it's odd.
My husband said that it's probably because the guys would think that you were doing it to pick up on chicks . . . as if that's the end of everything.
I have a friend that took a sewing class from BYU and really liked it. My roommate is also looking to buy a sewing machine to fix his clothes so he can get just the right fit so it just depends on the guy.
