Kickboxing

I originally put up "Ashley Johnson is going to take up kickboxing" and I only got one friend who liked it. I figured that was not enough to analyze, so I tried again last night, putting up: "Ashley Johnson is so excited to start kickboxing!" This got a bit more of a response. The only comment I got was from a girl who also liked it. She said "Jealous!! Where?" and had no problem whatsoever with gender codes. Another girl from home liked it as well as a guy from home. Interestingly enough, the guy from home, Tony, actually texted me instead of commenting on my status. "Kickboxing?! so hot" was a little bit surprising to hear from him. I doubt that it was any influence from gender codes, as kickboxing is a perfectly acceptable workout for anyone these days. Considering the broad spectrum of responses, I doubt that current gender codes prohibit girls from doing nearly anything. Looking at the posts by the guys, I think gender codes are currently more biased against guys than girls, partly because of the feminism movements impact on our culture.

kick boxing is hot. I would be afraid for my life of a girl who knew what she was doing in the kick boxing ring.

It seems like our whole culture is moving from feminine roles and shifting to favor male roles. Men are expected to do male sort of roles and females are as well. I almost feel like we are loosing those female associated roles.
