It seems like that idea of female empowerment. Boys probably didn't feel the need to comment because a lot of girls do things that are deemed as male activities and seem more aggressive. It's really common. It was the girls that commented probably just because of a societal norm to support girls in their efforts to gain more power. That being said, it actually seems like a fun idea so I kind of want to take a class or something now! :) I'm interested to hear how more of the guys in the class fared with their statuses.

Maybe I Will Take Up Kickboxing Now...
The responses I got from my status were pretty much what I was expecting. It wouldn't be too out there for a girl to want to take kickboxing classes; it could even be really cool. Everyone who commented on my status were girls. Three girls clicked that they 'liked' my status and two girls commented saying that it was "totally WICKED!!!" and one wanted to come with me.

I agree that women are more likely to support other women in activities that are seen as raising female power. Most of the comments on mine were from women as well, and I didn't think of that as why until now. Nice analysis.
Women support the "women power" idea, but at the same time, they wouldn't do something like kickboxing because they don't think it's appropriate for their gender.
Most of the responses I got were also from women. As females they can relate with your interests and motivations for taking a kickboxing class
Females love the idea that they can protect themselves. So I would expect all the girls to think the same when it comes to kickboxing.
@Thakurland I completely disagree, maybe that has an impact in other places, but me and my friends wouldn't let gender codes prevent us from doing something. I think doing construction work would be a lot of fun. I am actually more familiar with and better at using power tools than most of my male friends.
Women do support each other as they do traditionally-male things, but guys do not widely support doing female things. I think it would be cool to do kickboxing as a workout, not in an actual competition though.
