And i got a slew of responses, most of them being women. Most of the responders-- again did not take the question all that serious-- so many of the comments were jokes on how male sports should have more sex appeal. One comment stated: "When we try and make womens sports sexy, we get sports like cheerleading."
One female said, "If its sex appeal they want, they can go find it somewhere else." This comment made me realize that sex appeal is not what is hurting womens sports, its tradition. Traditionally, sports have been a male dominated field and although the feminist movement has come along way, it has yet to fully penetrate sports. I think that because most have grown up watching males play football, basketball...etc that is the habit we carry on in our lives and pass on to our kids. Im sure in families who watch and are fans of womens sports, their children will be more likely to also be fans and watch. Its more of a culture and tradition thing, not a sex appeal thing. Besides if they did ad more sex appeal, it would be an insult to those female athletes who have worked and sacrificed to be the best they can be in a sport. If girls grew up knowing the end result of years and years of hard work would only result in subjectification, there would not be any reason to try.

or another way of looking at it is that it has been "socially constructed" to not be into woman's sports (tradition). it's hard to break that construction when it has been so imbeded
