Racist? Yea or Nay?

yeap.... but then again who doesn't have some sort of feelings towards that which is different from themselves

For sure. theres actually a song called "everyone's a little bit racist" from Avenue Q

Yeah everyone is but only ppl real w/ themselves admit it...We all make comments we shouldn't..But I love living in America w/ different ppl and cultures, wouldn't change it for the world!

Avenue Q!

Definitely! Have you ever seen Crash? I thought that it had an interesting take on people's attitudes about race, whether overt or unknown to them.

told you Crash was tight....

I'm freaking way racist

i hate white

white people are the worst. I can't stand any of them.

Only against races that are different from my own...

don't know about racist, but I think everyone, in some way or another, feels slightly uncomfortable around those who are very different from themselves. Especially for those who are not used to being around different people, races, and cultures.

everybody likes to think that their "identity" and is ultimately the "best"... "identity" includes race, religious-affiliation, political-affiliation, code-of-ethics, computer-operating-system,
alma-mater, dominant-methods-of-analys
is, etc.

Best Song Ever! avenue q

yes i do. but it makes sense. its not a bad thing either. its human nature...

Um..... How do we put this nicely... Yes!

I don't feel uncomfortable, I just can't always relate with people that have traits that are much different than mine. It's easier to be relate with people that are more like you.

I think it's interesting that people made a point to say they hated white people. It's almost to show that they were either taking it as a joke and didn't understand it is a problem in America, or that they were proving that everyone is racist. It kinda gives a glance into the actual problem.

the ones who said they "hate white people" were white guys. it was interesting to see that a number of comments were joking.

I would agree that we all feel a little out of place when we are in situations that aren't familiar to us. I watched the movie crash just the other week also. It was a really interesting movie. I haven't ever been surrounded with such feelings that those people had to experience. I would say that people are a little uncomfortable of the unknown.

I agree with these comments. Being part of a dominant culture we never really think about this. My findings were the same.

Its interesting that one person put yes and than said it is not a bad thing just human nature. Just because its normal and natural does not mean that its not bad.

I think if we are more educated we realized that usually differences are among a system of beliefs and not about your ethnicity.

you must be popular. people commented on your facebook post. but, seriously, i couldn't help but laugh at the varied comments you got. it was interesting to see how some brought up Crash, Avenue Q, hating white people, and real thought into the question of racism. btw, was the person who said "i hate white people" white?

yeah, the author of "i hate white people" is white

The comment that said, yes but I don't think it's a bad thing had an interesting point. They totally owned up to it, but did not make it a big deal, almost playing it off that we shouldn't overreact to our natural tendencies.
