Not Much Buzz

On my status I simply put "Everyone is Racist" and i only got one comment about it. The only one asking if I thought Helen Keller was racist obviously because she was blind. I usually get quite a few posts about my statuses but for some reason no one took me seriously or did not want to get into an argument like that on Facebook. They could also agree and not say anything either. Congrats on those that received posts but as for me no one really paid attention to it.

I think the Helen Keller comment is really interesting. Someone who commented on my post wrote about how racism as we recognize it is based on outward appearance. So, if that were really the case then people who can't see outward appearance wouldn't have those differences to see. Of course there are lots of other factors, but that's still an interesting idea (even if it was a joke).

That probably happened because you usually post statuses like "I hate Provo traffic" and "I got a hair cut" :-)

I thought the Helen Keller comment was interesting as well. She really had no idea of racism since she was blind as well as deaf. If I were to be struck blind tomorrow, I would still be able to hear people's voices--their accents, regional dialects, etc. and my past experience would still lead to judgements about their race, education, class, etc. I guess that's the trick--getting past what we've "learned" and figuring out how to treat each other without prejudice.

Could blind people really be the only color blind people out there? We sometimes attempt to add a race to the way people behave or talk but can a blind person do that especially one that can't hear either... interesting.
