White Racism

I am not a big Facebook user. So much so that I only got two hits on my status. One was saying that everyone had a little bit of prejudice in them (the end) and the other was a link to the performance we watched in class. Much less reaction than I was hoping for.

But at the same time I was talking to friends to see what their reactions were to the same question. One girl in particular (who is 13/16 white and 3/16 Hawaiian and still claims "pacific islander" on most forms) I talked to, said she wasn't racist because she thinks that other races are cooler than white people. And that white people, having all the power in the world and all the money were what was wrong with America. But in saying this I think that still makes her racist, the only difference is that people don't care if people hate white people because they are white. From past wrongs it would seem that white people almost deserve it. But because of the past, white people have to be so careful not to say or do anything that would even appear to be bad to another person from a different culture.

I think that with our generation and society as a whole we are over racism. Few people out rightly hate another person just because of the color of their skin. I am not saying that there aren't still prejudices against people (usually in the subconscious) that still need to be over come.  We all have still a little bit to go to be loving of all of God's children and accept them equally. But why is hating white people okay?

I agree to some forms of this. Just as not all different types of colors can be stereotyped and clumped together, whites can't be either. You can say ALL whites or ALL blacks. We all helped free slaves and fought against our brothers, neighbors and friends in the same war that made all men equal. An on-going feat that we fight for every day.

I don't think I agree that racism is over because it doesn't seem like it has to be totally hating someone because of race, but just treating them differently. It still permeates at least the minds and thoughts of most individuals, but I do agree completely about the point made about racism against whites. Sometimes it just seems like whites aren't even considered a race.

I do think that racism is still an issue today. A few individuals actually responded to my Facebook status by sharing recent stories that had happened to them where they felt the effects of racism.

I don't agree that racism is over but it has definitely changed like you were saying. Racism against whites? Some would call it reverse racism.

It is a bit silly for white people to feel like they need to walk on egg shells about these topics. Every race has done something wrong towards another race in history. But the sad thing is that white people have been given the stereotype of being racist. Due to slavery, Hitler, and Nazi groups. But when you think about it. How many white people are German or have owned slaves in recent years?

Racism is not over by any means. I have a lot of friends that are of ethnic decent and without fail something happens on a weekly basis. Judgement according to skin tone still happens, and my black friends are constantly harrassed by cops all the time. Even in my own family we're treated differently, looked at differently one for our color, but two because of our size. (My father and Three brothers are all over 6'3" and around 300-400 pounds)
