I waited until later tonight to post my results in hopes that I'd get more of a response. My facebook friends seemed reluctant to post on a subject that is rather sensitive. I even had several friends who came to me in person and commented on my status rather than posting it
on facebook for the world to see. I think this is because many of my friends are from/I grew up in the Central Valley of California. It's an agricultural area that has many Mexican immigrants. Since we're close to the Bay Area, there are also a lot of
African American people as well. So, I have always been taught that it's better not to say anything about racial questions. The responses I did get were short and simple and they varied from person to person. The last commenter even posted a link to the lyrics of the "Avenue Q" song we heard in class.

In the end, I agree with the majority of the comments. However, I think that it depends on your definition of racism whether everybody's a little bit racist or not. Everybody definitely has their quirks when it comes to race.

Wow! you really went all out! Way to go!
Again I think the distinction between racism and another term is interesting (biased). I think it's mature in that it recognizes that we as humans do categorize everything, but we can change that first impression after more exposure. Racism seems to be a viewpoint which changes very little and is almost always negative.
That distinction between bias and racism was something that one person brought up on my post too. He said that we think that everyone is a little racist because we base it on outward appearance or other minor things instead of real prejudice or racism.
Great questions. I think race is a hard thing to talk about. It is hard to not seem racist when talking about race. It's a delicate subject.
Race isn't a hard discussion outside the US. I think we have gotten to sensitive about discussing differences. I don't think we need to discriminate differences, we should acknowledge them and embrace them.
I think it's interesting how racism is such a big problem around the country, yet people seem so hesitant to talk about it. And those who did, didn't really have anything to back up thier comments.
I think that you make a valid point that its all how you view something. Also we all have different terms of racism, depending on our different definitions we are a little bit racist to different degrees.
I had the same exact comment of "that doesn't mean we go around committing hate crimes." It is so interesting that people only think that racism is an act. It is also a thought process.
i agree, everyone has their little quirks about other races. we can't help it. great post! very busy and great questions.
great post!!
You put a lot of work into your post! I also had someone post something related to Avenue Q - actually, they posted the entire song as their response. I think that facebook is an interesting medium to post a question like that, because it's not like a group discussion - if you change your mind you can remove your post, but it still has been subject to the world's scrutiny for a brief period of time
"Sometimes. Doesn't mean we go around committing hate crimes." I think they really have a valid point differentiating racism from hate crime. Most of the time we lump them together, when really they are two very different things!
