I was surprised at how few people actually responded to the question, one of my friends knew exactly where the question was coined from. and stated avenue q (which I think the song we heard in class is from). Someone else said I was racist, and two others responded that to a degree everybody is. So I recieved from my small sample of friends mixed answers. So we discussed in class that on a basic level racism means to feel superior over someone because of the color of their skin or ethnicity or ideology or etc... So my question is... At this basic level of understanding could someone be racist by believing their better than someone because they aren't racist? Or in other words, by saying you're not racist and then you look down on those who are, does that make you prejudiced/ racist because you're feeling more superior or enlightened then them?

Yes. I think it definitely does. I think from the discussion we have been having we have made racism and prejudice the same thing. Everyone has some kind of each of those in us. Judgment is a flaw in human nature, no matter what kind of judgment it is, "good" or "bad".
I think that racism comes from that wanting to be better than others also from generations and generations of dislike towards a specific group of people. I can see that people in this generation are becoming more open towards others differences.
yeah, not many other people responded to my status either. i think this is because people do not want their true and raw opinions on a public forum from the World Wide Web. sad, because we really value their opinion.
What an interesting point! People who maybe think they are bette than racist people, and using the definition of racism as thinking you're better than someone based on skin. Maybe being prejudice relates better in this scenario than racist.
