I was very surprised at the amount of neutral feedback. Some people were incredibly positive in their replies (e.g. "Sure do!" "Yes. Yes I do." etc.) but others made very helpful contributions such as the idea that the correct word would probably be discrimination or prejudice.

That's interesting about prejudice or discrimination. "Racist" sounds more like you don't want someone on the same bus as you which I doubt anyone would say or feel. Discrimination, on the other hand, is the quiet noticing of differences and confirming of stereotypes.
Everyone is so afraid of the word racist; it makes me wonder if people really know what it means truly.
I think people are afraid of it because of all of the negative connotations behind it
The people who posted on mine were also weary to say racist, but would rather point to stereotyping, etc.. because it seems more acceptable
I agree. I don't think that racist is always the right word. Sometimes it's more about religion, status, etc. We are all a little bit prejudice.
I think the word "racism" makes people feel uncomfortable. It seems that everyone has their own definition of what it means.
I would agree that discrimination would be a good describing word for how we are. Racist is the big picture but there can be different levels of racism, discrimination would be the beginning.
I would agree with prejudice and discrimination. However, the fact that people still call it 'racism' is kind of alarming. If it is still a apart of our vocabulary is going to be present i our lives.
prejudice, discriminatory, or racist..they can all mean the same thing but have different underlying factors between them. great post.
semantics always play a key role. But the meaning behind most of these words are the same. Sometimes interchangeable.
"RACIST!"....i think is what may come to peoples minds when they themselves have to talk about racism.
I think in this day and age, most people feel more comfortable saying something neutral and not voicing their true feelings than saying what they really think and getting bashed on one way or another.
