Two Brave Latin Souls/No Racial

Response 1: No...But I think everyone is a little prejuduice...a bit different.

Response 2: I don't know, carnal, but these gueros would never admit to it, even if they are...

I found the first response to be a little enlightening since there was a distinction made between racism and prejudice. Being prejudice is making- an assumptions about someone or something before having adequate knowledge to be able to do so with guaranteed accuracy. Being racist is usually given a much stronger emotion or meaning that of disliking someone because of their race or ethnicity due to some prejudices.

The second response is a bit humorous since his statement is made with the term gueros meaning white people. He sort of answers by stating that white people will never admit to being racist. He also uses the term carnal which means partner. Claiming that we understand one another.

I'm surprised that both my responses were given by hispanic's and that nobody else responded to it. I also have less hispanic friends on Facebook. It would be interesting to see the demographic of ethnicity found in my list of friends.

Warning: Explicit Language at the end of the video.

Why do we find humor and racist jokes? And have you ever told a racist joke about your own race?

That's interesting. All the people that commented on mine were either latin or asian until people started commenting nonsense.

You brought up some interesting points- and sadly yes, I'm sure I've told several jokes at the expense of my own race.

The majority of people that commented were my white friends. I was actually expecting it to be the opposite. They were not shy at expressing their opinions.

I think that a lot of people are too afraid to step on toes so they joke instead of having a serious discussion.

I would say that people lack adequate knowledge for sure. We all come from different circumstances and each of us have a different view of what the world looks like. We all interact differently depending on what we have been taught.

I had a similar experience--people that responded used the word "biased" instead of racist. The word racist has such a negative connotation so no one wants to use it, even if it is the more appropriate word.

I think prejudice is more of an accurate idea. Most people make "racist" comments because they truly don't know what they are saying about the subject.

I also had people comment on my page that made a point to differentiate between being racist and being prejudiced. The bulk of the people who responded to my page were white, and most of them said that they think that everyone is a bit racist. It would be interesting to see how many people see being racist as being a problem and how many just want to justify their own prejudices and biases.

I think it's interesting that if you are a minority you can say totally racist things and get away with it...
