I went about this a little differently, I decided to quit emailing (except work of course), texting, & facebook, If I wanted to talk to someone, I'd have to call them or go over and visit. I did this for one day, and I've come to realize that, our life revolves around screens, we wake up and look at our computer screen, or phone screen, or even the TV screen, as if what we need will be fulfilled by watching the screens. I've made a real effort not to check my phone or email immediately in the morning but that first I get some things done. I find that it does disconnect you with the immediate people around you. Yeah facebook might be giving you a chance to see what others are doing, but for the most part their just updating their facebook just like everyone else, and trying to be clever with the things they write.
So of course I also asked if people felt addicted to facebook, or technology for that matter, one person said yes, some joked about it, and the rest denied being addicted to it, I thought it was funny especially for one person who said they don't really use facebook, because they are constantly updating their status, asking dumb questions, and doing all the little games, everytime I've ever been on facebook, they've been on. I think people don't realize how much they begin shaping their life to revolve around facebook. It is what it is, a technology distraction to amuse, entertain, & allows us the oppertunity to talk to people without actually having to talk to people. It takes away all the effort of communication. My favorite is getting wedding invitations in facebook, They didn't even try to get my address, maybe it was cost efficient, for them. Well then I hope they don't find it rude when I give them a gift on facebook for their wedding present. I'd say use facebook as a last resort for sending out invites, but don't expect huge gifts if thats all the effort and time you did. people like tangible things.
I find that technology has become a distraction, the day I gave up facebook, I actually wrote some papers in a decent time stretch I finished my homework, and had more time to actually work or play or whatever I wanted. It was weird. Its hard to admit but its just easier to turn on the tv, or watch youtube, than try to have a stimulating conversation, we're afriad of silence it seems as a society, we have to constantly be doing something. I like just sitting back and not doing a thing. its nice not having any distractions and just thinking. We don't allow ourselves to do that very much. I like having only one thing to focus on, but our society doesn't allow us to do that, it says we need to do everything and everything all at once. Even this university is set up that way, and it has to be in order to make $ and to educate students, the more classes you have the better according to them, It costs more to be a parttime student in a sense. Monetarily being fulltime you pay more, but accourding what you pay according to the classes. With less classes you pay more per class. also all your tests tend to run at the same time, and all the big final projects tend to be around the same time from all your classes, so instead of being able to pour all your creative energies into one of your projects you get the oppertunity of multitasking and hoping that everyone else didn't have time to make an extraordinary paper, or thing. Technology is changing how we funtion from day to day, its changing how we think about the world, and how we think period. & as this happens the world changes with us.

I agree that it is SUCH a distraction. I'm typing this in the library right now and I JUST heard someone say... "Hey you should add me on Facebook." Oh my goodness it is everywhere. Everything can be used in moderation and facebook is not one of those it seems.
