Addiction

As Professor Cutri went over the assignment instructions I already knew the results. I have been thinking a lot about media and Facebook, especially because in one of my other classes we are conducting a research about Facebook and happiness. I know that I am a part of this social network and I take advantage of it. I use it to talk to friends, family, receive messages, work, etc. i think it is an amazing tool but I do acknowledge that for me it can become addicting. I don't necessarily spend a lot of time on it but I have to open most of the times I am at the computer. I wasn't able to just check my e-mail and Facebook two times throughout that day because I used it for work and business, and both mediums are the quickest way to reply- especially if someone else is abroad and needs to contact you.

On the other hand, I recognize I am BBM addict (A Blackberry messenger addict). I a few weeks ago i was running late for class and left my phone at home. At the beginning I felt so weird as something reaaaally important was missing. Nonetheless, throughout the day I sort of started to feel relaxed and without the need to check my phone every 5 minutes for a new message. I just waited to get to a computer and check my e-mails. At that point I realized that I have chose to have every type of media in my life and have that constant connection. It's as we are wired all the time, phones, computers, ipads, etc. everything evolves around technology. Sometimes is good to take a "tech fast" and realized that we decide whether to depend or not from our phones and "toys". it is goo to relax and truly appreciate things as they come and without pressure.

Even looking back to my freshman year I can remember when having a cell phone wasn't a big deal, you just used it when you needed to but you weren't glued to it like we are today.

I'm so relieved that I'm not the only one that freaks out when I leave my phone. Sometimes it gets to a point though after the initial freak out that's great to be disconnected. Ya know?
