Celebrity Obsession

I have not been unaffected by the media. I love reading tabloids, consuming television and watching movies.

I remember in 2001 when Legally Blonde came out and I felt pretty inspired to work hard and obtain what I wanted; maybe even go to Law School too. At 15 I saw Elle’s wardrobe and instantly wanted it. As soon as the movie was released I bought it and watched it more than a dozen times within a month of my purchase. I later made sure I had her beautiful necklace she wore in the opening scenes and remembered to take care of my shoes. Thank you, Elle.

When I was 17 I got together with a group of girls every week to watch One Tree Hill and Gilmore Girls. We gossiped about what happened and made serious decisions as to what should happen with these “real” people in our lives. I also oogled over the nickname Logan gave Rory and how well put-together Lorelei always seemed to be. I learned how "normal" teens lived and saw what I was glad I didn't have in my life.

By 20 I realized my love for weekly’s. I soon began a nice stack of magazines on the back of our toilet and intrigued my roommates to focus lives of those who we thought was larger than life. I began to look at what the fashions were in and find the cheap knock-offs to complete my “celebrity look”. I learned what I would spend money for, and what would just have to wait.

Now I watch reality tv like I’m on the show and don’t understand why the contestants are so stupid and drama filled. I cheer them on and hate the ones the producers portray as idiots. Really? Has my life ended at 23 for a reason? Why do celebrities help me pick my outfits through magazine covers and make me want to buy certain accessories to be more fulfilled? Isn’t there something more to life? Sure, but I still do love to get a dose of someone else’s drama so I can be happier that it’s not actually in my life.

My question: What was the last thing a celebrity convinced you to do?

My wife watched One Tree Hill and I started watching it with her last year. The character Mia, played by singer Kate Voegele, convinced me to get onto iTunes and buy her CD. I really enjoy it.

After seeing Twilight, I wanted the soundtrack and asked for it for Christmas. It's currently my favorite music.

Yeah same. When Twilight came out I saw it three times, and I bought the soundtrack. It's also my favorite music! When the dvd comes out you better believe i'm going to purchase it!

Well, I love soccer, and one of the best p;layers in the world right now is Cristiano Ronaldo from Portugal. He had a hair style that was wicked cool. A few weeks ago I tried a new style of hair cut, and his hair influenced my decision, it wasn't the exact same, but influenced my decision.

I am totally obsessed with the hair and fashion on Gossip Girl...when Jenny (a character on the show) cut chunky full on bangs into her hair, it was only a matter of weeks before I did the same. I still love them.

Bob barker once convinced me to spay and neuter my pets.
Just kidding. I have no pets.
Let's see...I guess celebrities influence me to know what NOT to do alot. When I see somebody on Rock of Love pass out in the Jacuzzi, I'm reminded not to do drugs. And when I hear about the drama on shows like Laguna Beach, I'm reminded to be grateful for things that are really important.
Oh, and Beyonce influences me to put a ring on things that I like.

I also got the Twilight soundtrack for Christmas. I got the idea for my future son's name from One Tree Hill - Lucas. If our baby had been a boy this time around, he would have been named Lucas.

They convinced me to refer to cleaning my house and taking out the trash as "Charlie Work."

I actually have a situation similar to Brenton's. I started watching "One Tree Hill" with a close friend on mine and when Kate Voegele started appearing on the show, I made sure to buy her music because "One Tree Hill" always had the new and upcoming artists featured in their soundtracks.

Veronica Mars influenced my hair-style. I think I cut it short because I was influenced by another celebrity (I can't remember who), but when it started to grow out someone said they'd found my celebrity twin, so I jumped on-line, saw her hair-style and cut mine to look like hers.

I wish I could come up with some examples that are more recent...but I definitely remember back in the early high school days picking up skateboarding to get a snowboard style more like Danny Kass. I also changed my stance but that was because of someone else.....I don't remember

Well, I have a childhood memory that's just too good not to share. My first television obsession was Captain Planet. He convinced me to ask for my first action figure, which was complete with a button the back to make his arm punch and a ring/string contraption that helped him fly...

I can't say I can recall the last time I was convinced to do anything by a celebrity. I'd probably have to agree with hearing a song and purchasing it after.

I would consider Katie Paine a celebrity in the world of social media. After seeing GoDaddy's superbowl ad, she sent out a tweet requesting a female-friendly alternative to GoDaddy. Network Solutions, GoDaddy's competitor, quickly responded and many made the switch from GoDaddy to Network Solutions. Katie Paine's influence on Twitter persuaded me to get a Twitter account.

I can't really think of anything I have done that has been a direct result of a celebrity. I guess the closest for me would be the haircut thing. It has never really been one person that I have followed to get my hair cut like, but I definitely look what the celebrity trends are before I get my hair done....Whether or not I follow it.

celebrities not Celebrities.

Well it wasnt necessarily a product as much as it was a lifestyle. I fell in love with The Doors in high school and especially with Jim Morrison's style and personality. I grew my hair out almost to my shoulders to idolize his hair and I also tried to emulate his laid back and easy going yet "wild" personality.

I have to admit that I too am a "gossip magazine" reader. It's somewhat of a guilty pleasure. In that sense, celebrities convince me to buy the magazines and further more the clothing shown in the magazine.

I wore the perfume "Curious" by Britney Spears for the longest time.

When I watched the MTV show Laguna Beach in high school I would always try and go out and find their clothes at stores. I was obsessed with Lauren Conrad's style. I remember she was featured in a teen vogue article saying she wore a certain type of flip flop, so I went out and bought them. I was young and didn't realize this was completely ridiculous.

Rob Dyrdek (if you know who this is then lets be friends) has influenced me to try and have a ton of fun everyday. Oh, and i have dropped so many things like they were hot that Snoop would be proud of me.

I will admit that I really like watching celebrities and hearing about what they have or haven't been doing. However, the only thing that I have caught myself doing is mimicking their hair styles.

i think that if i purchase something a celebrity has, its because i genuinely like the item and was exposed to it because a celebrity wore it, not because i have to have it because i like that celebrity. i get inspiration for outfits from looking at blogs that include pictures of celebrities like alexa chung and zooey deschanel on a daily basis.

The absolutley LOVED the recent movie "He's Just Not That Into You". I think every girl needs to see it for one reason or another. The writing of this movie convinced me to buy the book that it is based on.

Umm..... go to a basketball game, most likely. That or some other sporting event.

One of my favorite celebrities is Morgan Freeman. I watched a special on him a while ago. His story is fascinating in how he got over the racial issues he had in his early career. He has now become a really respected actor. Celebrities with a story like that help motivate me to work hard for the things that I really want in life.

I'm ashamed to admit this but I am obsessed with shows like The Hills and The City on MTV. The best part of the shows are the casts wardrobes. One episode, Lauren was wearing a beautiful BCBG blouse. I recognized it in my catalog and bought it.
